　　《简明西方文化史》是外交学院的规划教材，也是该校双语授课和用英语教授专业课的主要教材。全书分为四个主要部分：一部分为介绍部分，包括编作者撰写的关于西方文化演化的主题和重大事件的回顾与评述；第二部分为主要宏观概念、重大事件及人物、权威学者关于文化研究的论述总结；第三部分为案例研究部分。编作者采用了英国《经济学人》杂志2012年度特别报道关于犹太人历史现状研究的题材。选择犹太人历史现状作为案例研究的题目是遵循西方文明史研究中关于"双希"假设的范例，力图展示犹太文明在西方文明发展进程中的奠基和基因式作用；第四部分是练习及测试，包括四套关于西方文明发展历程的判断题及相关的思考题，目的是为了帮助阅读者和学习者能够通过这些练习及测试题巩固所学到的知识并深入思考。教程的结尾是附件部分，共有两个附件（一个是简短的书单，另一个是课程大纲范例）。
